Your monthly tuition is a “package” which includes:

  • Reserving 30 or 45 min. weekly lesson time
  • Organizing and planning festivals, recitals, and Master Class.
  • Communicating with parents
  • Scheduling lessons  (routine and make ups)
  • Purchasing rewards for students
  • Securing music at the appropriate level and interest of students
  • Publicizing students achievements and activities

Beginning date:
Week of August 7

The
monthly charge is $110.00, independent of how many lessons are scheduled for any given month or in which month you begin. The studio year includes 35 lessons for each lesson day.

A
$10 late fee must be paid if the monthly fee is not received the first lesson’s day of the month. All fees are non-refundable.

Please note any charges for materials listed at the
bottom of the practice calendar. Also, add for activities. One check may be made out to “Reid Spratlin Business.”

Suspension or Termination of Lessons: One month notice is required to avoid payment.

Students of the middle school age and above are encouraged to take 45 minute lessons. The charge is 1-1/2 times your day's rate. Lessons at the home of the student are available for an additional charge.

Cancellations and Make Ups: Since you are paying for time scheduled rather than instruction per se, you must give a minimum of 48 hr. notice when canceling a lesson if you desire a make up. For sudden illness or death of a close family member and any other reasonable emergency situation, I must be notified by 7 AM the day of the lesson for make ups to be scheduled. It is your responsibility to get in touch with me to either swap with a fellow student or work out a mutually acceptable time over holidays for make ups.
All Make Ups must be completed prior to July 31.
Summer Lessons (other than make ups): Optional Summer lessons may be scheduled at $31.50 per lesson as frequently or occasionally as desired.

Practicing:
~A student
must have a well-tuned acoustic piano or a keyboard including bench and stand with weighted keys and a pedal or the ability to add a pedal.

~Children in first grade should practice a minimum of 15 min./day five days out of the week; those in second grade and above, at least 30 min./day five days a week. Students should spend 1/3 of practice time reviewing recently passed pieces.

~Parents must provide the environment for practicing to take place: a quiet, uninterrupted setting at a routine time each day. Even if the parent or guardian knows nothing about music, he/she should sit with the student one-third of the practice time making sure the assignment is completed. Start at a different point on the assignment everyday. For the beginner the parent can learn right along with the child since everything is completely explained in the Lesson book.

Unless the student is playing accurately: correct notes and rhythm, practicing is
not occurring. Learning a musical instrument is both cerebral and muscular; it is the acquisition of a skill.

In the Grade section of the notebook, I record how well a student has prepared the assignment and (s)he is using what (s)he has previously studied. If (s)he receives an “Excellent” he can “purchase” rewards.
